If your household receives more than one of these three benefits, you are running on three different calendars at once. VA disability compensation is paid on the first business day of the month for the previous month. SSI is paid on the 1st of the month, moved back to the prior business day when the 1st is a weekend or federal holiday. SSDI is paid on a Wednesday determined by your birth date. In practice, VA and SSI land on the exact same date every month, and SSDI lands 8 to 28 days later. In 2026 that means three calendar months, March, August, and November, contain no VA deposit and no SSI deposit at all.
Nothing is being withheld in those months. The money arrived a day or two early, at the end of the month before. Below is the combined calendar, the rule behind each date, and what to do when two of the three payments land in the same week.
The Three Payment Rules Side by Side
| VA disability compensation | SSDI (Social Security Disability) | SSI (Supplemental Security Income) |
|---|
| Paying agency | Department of Veterans Affairs | Social Security Administration | Social Security Administration |
| Base rule | First business day of the following month | Wednesday assigned by birth date | 1st day of the month |
| Paid for | The previous month (in arrears) | The current month | The current month |
| Weekend or holiday | Moves back to the last business day before | Moves back to the prior business day | Moves back to the prior business day |
| Date varies by person | No, same day for all veterans | Yes, three different groups | No, same day for all recipients |
| Deposits per calendar year | 12 | 12 | 12 |
Two consequences of those rules matter for a multi-benefit household.
First, VA and SSI always deposit on the same date. Both rules resolve to the same thing: the last banking day on or before the 1st of the month. They never diverge. What differs is which month the money covers. The deposit you receive on October 1 is your September VA compensation and your October SSI payment.
Second, SSDI is the only one of the three that stays mid-month. Because the Wednesday groups never shift to the end of a month, SSDI is the payment you can count on in the months where the other two disappear.
Combined 2026 Payment Calendar
Read this table by the calendar month the money hits your account, not by the month it covers.
| Calendar month | VA deposit | SSI deposit | SSDI: birth 1st to 10th | SSDI: birth 11th to 20th | SSDI: birth 21st to 31st |
|---|
| January 2026 | Jan 30 | Jan 30 | Jan 14 | Jan 21 | Jan 28 |
| February 2026 | Feb 27 | Feb 27 | Feb 11 | Feb 18 | Feb 25 |
| March 2026 | none | none | Mar 11 | Mar 18 | Mar 25 |
| April 2026 | Apr 1 | Apr 1 | Apr 8 | Apr 15 | Apr 22 |
| May 2026 | May 1 | May 1 | May 13 | May 20 | May 27 |
| June 2026 | Jun 1 | Jun 1 | Jun 10 | Jun 17 | Jun 24 |
| July 2026 | Jul 1 and Jul 31 | Jul 1 and Jul 31 | Jul 8 | Jul 15 | Jul 22 |
| August 2026 | none | none | Aug 12 | Aug 19 | Aug 26 |
| September 2026 | Sep 1 | Sep 1 | Sep 9 | Sep 16 | Sep 23 |
| October 2026 | Oct 1 and Oct 30 | Oct 1 and Oct 30 | Oct 14 | Oct 21 | Oct 28 |
| November 2026 | none | none | Nov 10 | Nov 18 | Nov 25 |
| December 2026 | Dec 1 and Dec 31 | Dec 1 and Dec 31 | Dec 9 | Dec 16 | Dec 23 |
One SSDI date in 2026 is shifted. The second Wednesday of November is November 11, which is Veterans Day, a federal holiday. Everyone in the first birth-date group is paid Tuesday, November 10 instead.
Why Three Months Have No VA or SSI Deposit
The 1st fell on a weekend in each following month, pulling the payment back into the month before.
March 2026. There is no VA or SSI deposit in March because March 1 was a Sunday. Both payments arrived Friday, February 27. February therefore held two of each.
August 2026. August 1 was a Saturday. Both payments arrived Friday, July 31, so July held two of each and August held none.
November 2026. November 1 was a Sunday. Both payments arrive Friday, October 30, putting two in October and none in November.
December 2026 holds two again. January 1, 2027 is a Friday and a federal holiday, so the December 1 deposit is followed by a second deposit on Thursday, December 31.
That last one creates the longest dry stretch of the whole period. After December 31, 2026, the next VA or SSI deposit is February 1, 2027, a gap of 32 days. If rent or a car payment is due in the first week of January, it needs to be covered out of the December 31 money.
For the single-program detail on each of these, including compensation rates by rating and the birth-date rules in full, see VA Disability Pay Dates 2026, SSDI Payment Schedule 2026, and SSI Payment Schedule 2027.
Remaining 2026 Dates
If you are reading this in the last quarter of the year, here is what is left.
| Date | Day | What arrives |
|---|
| October 1, 2026 | Thursday | September VA compensation and October SSI |
| October 14, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 1st to 10th |
| October 21, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 11th to 20th |
| October 28, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 21st to 31st |
| October 30, 2026 | Friday | October VA compensation and November SSI |
| November 10, 2026 | Tuesday | SSDI, birth dates 1st to 10th (moved for Veterans Day) |
| November 18, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 11th to 20th |
| November 25, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 21st to 31st |
| December 1, 2026 | Tuesday | November VA compensation and December SSI |
| December 9, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 1st to 10th |
| December 16, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 11th to 20th |
| December 23, 2026 | Wednesday | SSDI, birth dates 21st to 31st |
| December 31, 2026 | Thursday | December VA compensation and January 2027 SSI |
October is the month to watch. A household on all three benefits can see four separate deposits in October 2026 depending on birth date, then only one in November.

| December 2027 | Dec 1 and Dec 30 | Dec 1 and Dec 30 | Dec 8 | Dec 15 | Dec 22 |
Two notes on 2027. No Wednesday payment date collides with a federal holiday, so the SSDI groups keep their normal dates all year. And the final deposit of 2027 falls on Thursday, December 30, not the 31st. January 1, 2028 is a Saturday, which means New Year's Day is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027. Because that Friday is itself a federal holiday, both agencies move back one additional day. The same two-day shift happened at the end of 2021, when January 1, 2022 fell on a Saturday.
If Your Benefits Started Before May 1997
A different Social Security group exists for anyone whose benefits began before May 1997, and for most people who receive SSDI and SSI together. That group is paid on the 3rd of the month rather than on a Wednesday.
| Benefit month | 2026 payment date |
|---|
| January | January 2 (January 3 is a Saturday) |
| February | February 3 |
| March | March 3 |
| April | April 3 |
| May | May 1 (May 3 is a Sunday) |
| June | June 3 |
| July | July 2 (July 3 is the observed Independence Day holiday) |
| August | August 3 |
| September | September 3 |
| October | October 2 (October 3 is a Saturday) |
| November | November 3 |
| December | December 3 |
If you are in this group and you also receive SSI and VA compensation, all three payments cluster within the first few days of the month. In some months they are only one or two days apart, which makes early-month budgeting easier but leaves a longer gap at the end.
What It Means When Two Payments Land in the Same Week
Two payments arriving close together does not change the amount you are owed, but it does change three practical things.
Your bank balance timing. A month with two VA deposits and two SSI deposits can look like a windfall on paper. It is not. The second deposit belongs to the following month's expenses. The most common budgeting mistake in a multi-benefit household is spending the end-of-month early deposit in the month it arrived.
Nothing is duplicated. A calendar month with two VA deposits still represents two separate benefit months. You received 12 VA payments in 2026 and 12 SSI payments, no more and no less. If you count 13 deposits in your statement history for the year, check whether one of them is dated December 31 of the prior year.
Reporting. Both SSI and VA count benefits toward the month they are intended to cover, not the month the deposit clears. An early deposit does not create a double-income month on your SSI record. If SSA or VA sends a notice suggesting otherwise, the date on your award letter and the benefit month on your payment notice are what settle it.
How the Three Benefits Interact Financially
Payment dates are separate from payment amounts, and the amount rules are not the same across programs.
VA disability and SSDI do not reduce each other. SSDI is an insurance benefit funded by your payroll taxes and is not means-tested, so VA compensation is irrelevant to it. You can receive a 100 percent VA rating and a full SSDI benefit at the same time. They require separate applications and separate approvals, and each agency makes its own disability determination.
VA disability and SSDI both reduce SSI. SSI is needs-based. VA compensation and SSDI are both counted as unearned income. After the $20 general income exclusion, each additional dollar of unearned income reduces the federal SSI payment by a dollar. With the 2026 federal benefit rate at $994 per month for an individual, roughly $1,014 or more in combined unearned income eliminates the federal SSI payment entirely.
VA pension is treated differently from VA compensation. VA needs-based payments, including VA pension, generally do not receive the $20 general income exclusion, because that exclusion does not apply to income based on need. If you receive VA pension rather than disability compensation, ask SSA to confirm how your specific payment is counted.
A $0 federal SSI payment is not always the end of it. Many states add a supplement on top of the federal rate, and some states pay a supplement even when the federal payment is reduced to zero. Losing federal SSI can also affect automatic Medicaid eligibility in most states, which is often the more valuable part of the benefit.
Direct Deposit and Bank Timing
All three agencies pay by electronic transfer. Paper checks have been phased out for new beneficiaries, and both SSA and VA require direct deposit or a prepaid card.
Deposits usually post in the early morning on the scheduled date, commonly by 9 a.m. local time. Some banks and fintech accounts release federal deposits as soon as they receive the payment file, which can be one to two business days ahead of the official date. That is a bank policy, not a change in the payment schedule, and it is not guaranteed month to month.
If a payment does not arrive:
- Wait one full business day past the scheduled date before calling. Same-day posting times vary by institution.
- Confirm the date against the calendar above. An early deposit at the end of the prior month is the most common explanation for a missing payment.
- For SSDI or SSI, call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or check your my Social Security account.
- For VA compensation, call 1-800-827-1000 or check VA.gov.
- Check whether your bank account or routing number changed recently. A returned deposit is reissued, but it adds several days.
The 2027 COLA and When Dates Change
Cost-of-living adjustments change amounts, not dates. The 2026 COLA of 2.8 percent took effect with the December 31, 2025 deposit, which is why the increase appeared before January 2026 for both VA and SSI recipients.
SSA is expected to announce the official 2027 COLA on October 14, 2026, alongside the September Consumer Price Index release. Independent projections from AARP and The Senior Citizens League put it in the mid-3 percent range, higher than the 2.8 percent applied for 2026, but the figure is not final until SSA publishes it. VA compensation rates are adjusted by the same percentage.
When it takes effect, the increase applies to December 2026 benefits. For SSI that means the payment deposited December 31, 2026. For VA compensation, the December 2026 benefit is also paid December 31, 2026. For SSDI the increase appears in the January 2027 payment, on your normal Wednesday.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do VA disability and SSI ever arrive on the same day?
Yes, every month. Both rules resolve to the last banking day on or before the 1st, so the two deposits always share a date. They cover different months, though: the deposit you get on the 1st is the previous month's VA compensation and the current month's SSI.
Why was there no VA or SSI deposit in March 2026?
March 1, 2026 was a Sunday, so both payments moved back to Friday, February 27. February held two of each and March held none. The same thing happened in August and happens again in November 2026.
Does VA disability reduce my SSDI payment?
No. SSDI is not means-tested and VA compensation is not counted against it. You can receive both in full. Each program requires its own application and makes its own disability determination.
Does VA disability reduce my SSI payment?
Yes. VA compensation counts as unearned income for SSI. After the $20 general income exclusion, it reduces the federal SSI payment dollar for dollar. With the 2026 federal benefit rate at $994 for an individual, VA compensation above roughly $1,014 per month generally eliminates the federal SSI payment.
Can I receive VA disability, SSDI, and SSI at the same time?
It is possible but uncommon, because VA compensation and SSDI together usually exceed the SSI income limit. The most common combination is VA compensation plus SSDI. A veteran with a low VA rating and a small SSDI benefit may still qualify for a partial SSI payment, plus a state supplement in some states.
What day does SSDI arrive if my birthday is the 15th?
The third Wednesday of the month. In 2026 that is January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16, October 21, November 18, and December 16.
How many payments will I get in 2026?
Twelve of each. VA sends 12, SSI sends 12, and SSDI sends 12. Three calendar months hold two VA and two SSI deposits and three hold none, which balances out over the year.
Why is my last 2027 payment on December 30 instead of December 31?
January 1, 2028 is a Saturday, so New Year's Day is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027. Because that Friday is a federal holiday, both agencies move back one more day to Thursday, December 30.
Can my bank release the payment early?
Some can. Banks that post federal deposits as soon as the payment file arrives may credit your account one to two business days before the official date. It depends on your institution and is not guaranteed each month. The official date is the one the agency will confirm if there is a dispute.
