How we write and check our guides
BenefitsUSA publishes guides to government benefit programs: who qualifies, what they pay, and how to apply. This page explains how the guides are made and who is responsible for them.
How a guide is written
Our guides are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and checked against the primary source before they are published: the federal or state agency page, the regulation, or the official rate table the guide is about. Numbers that change every year, such as the federal poverty guidelines, SNAP amounts, SSI payments and Medicare premiums, come from the agency that sets them and are re-checked when the agency updates them.
Dates
Every guide shows the date it was published and the date it was last updated. If a guide has not been updated since a program changed, the older date is your signal to confirm the current figure with the agency.

Jacob Posner, the founder of BenefitsUSA, is responsible for everything published on this site. BenefitsUSA is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Social Security Administration or any government agency.

How the site is paid for
The site is free to use. It is paid for by display advertising on article pages and by referral fees when someone chooses to connect with a licensed specialist. Neither changes what a guide says or what the screener shows. The quiz, screener and results pages carry no advertising.
